"Probably the first successful saphenous bypass graft was by Edward Garrett (1964), whilst he was working with DeBakey. He performed the bypass graft in order to wean a patient from cardiopulmonary bypass, and the long-term result of the procedure was not reported until 10 years later [this article]."
