Detection of herpesvirus-like DNA sequences in Kaposi's sarcoma in patients with and those without HIV infection.

That the virus causing Kaposi's sarcoma appeared in healthy as well as HIV patients suggested that this virus causes cancer only in those whose immune system T cells and other immune cells are not functioning properly.
